Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
After completing his undergraduate education, Dr. Keister took part in cancer research at the University of Pennsylvania. This experience showed him that he liked working with his hands every day, and this naturally led him to a career in dentistry.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Keister graduated summa cum laude from Clemson University in 1999 with a degree in Biochemistry. He went on to perform cancer research at the prestigious Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia before embarking on his dental career at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.
While at Penn Dental, Dr. Keister excelled both academically and clinically, graduating at the top of his class with numerous awards, including the Dean’s Scholarship, the Delaware Valley Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Oral Implantology Award, the Academy of Osseointegration Outstanding Dental Student in Implant Dentistry Award, the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Award of Excellence, and the International College of Dentists Leadership Award.
After graduation, Dr. Keister completed a general practice residency at York Hospital in York, PA where he advanced his training in dental trauma, sedation, oral surgery, dental implants, and the management of medically compromised patients. In 2019, Dr. Keister was recognized as a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD) for his pursuit of clinical excellence after completing 1,100 hours of continuing education. He has also received advanced training through Spear Education.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
When he’s not at the dental office, Dr. Keister loves spending time with his wife, Dr. Stephanie Shinmachi (an orthodontist), whether it involves running ultra-marathons, visiting National Parks, scoping out the best pizza places, or boating and fishing in the Raritan Bay. Their most recent adventure in a National Park was a 46-mile run from the South Rim to the North Rim and back across the Grand Canyon.
